UMC Foundation Spotlight: Mah Jongg for Midge
If you’re connected with UMC at The Shores or have been on our Foundation’s mailing list for several years, you may have the pleasure of remembering a resident named Midge Peacock. Midge was a UMC Foundation supporter, and she was kind enough to share her personal experience so other donors could get a glimpse of what life is really like in a UMC community. Her love for mah jongg and the way she used the game to exercise her mind and socialize with and befriend new residents came through loud and proud in her testimonial.
Midge passed away earlier this year, and in a very fitting tribute UMC at The Shores held a mah jongg party to celebrate her love for sharing the game with others. Residents and friends gathered on July 28th to play the game while enjoying lunch and delicious desserts. There was even the opportunity to win prizes.
Over $700 was raised at the mah jongg party and will be donated to the UMC Foundation in Midge’s memory. Midge would be touched by everyone’s generosity, but we know she would be most pleased that so many participants were able to spend an afternoon playing her favorite game.
