Finding long-term care for you or your loved one can be an overwhelming experience. Long term care is offered in four of United Methodist Communities full service communities. These services allow for a graceful transition from our assisted living programs within the same overall community. The associates at United Methodist Communities are committed to being the most helpful and accommodating team in the industry for families navigating this process and trying to discover how to find and afford the right elder care facility, even if it is not one of ours.
How Do I Get Started Finding An Elder Care Residence For My Parent?
Geography is where most people start. Do you want them to be near where you live now or near where they have always lived? United Methodist Communities has sites throughout New Jersey, so it is likely we have one in an area near you.
What level of support does your parent require? Are you looking for Senior Housing or assisted living services? Is your loved one fiercely independent, but still requiring support and more social opportunities? Something to realize is that some communities offer independent condo/apartment style living while still providing access to services should the need arise. This arrangement allows a resident privacy and lifestyle independence while putting them in the path for increasing levels of support right in the same community. Family members should be consulted to have input on the strategy of care for their loved one. Make a list of key concerns and at a minimum understand the following: Can they take care of themselves (CCRC living or assisted living)? What kind of care may they require in three years? Five years? Ten years? Would you be willing to help them move or would it be better to have them in an assisted living situation now?
