Vaccine Letter to Residents from UMC CEO Larry Carlson
As I write this letter, I have now received my second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. I can confidently share that the biggest, most noticeable side effect I have experienced is HOPE. Hope for a future where COVID-19 isn’t running our lives.
To date, 1,025 UMC residents and associates have been vaccinated! This number continues to grow as our Walgreens and CVS partners work with our Executive Directors and Housing Administrators to return for second and third vaccine clinics.
Your grace and fortitude for the last 11 months has been exceptional. My deepest thanks go out to each and every resident who has chosen to be vaccinated so far. I urge those who have not yet received a COVID-19 vaccine to please consider taking advantage of the next date in your community. If you have questions about the vaccine, PLEASE reach out to your Executive Director or Administrator.
We are working hard to get enough residents and associates vaccinated so person to person spread is unlikely, known as herd immunity. All our loved and missed activities: communal dining, church services, clubs, and socializing depend on reaching this milestone.
I cannot stress enough that the health and safety of UMC’s residents, associates, and essential caregivers is our highest priority. Our leadership team is doing everything within our power to encourage associates to do their part and get the vaccine. I appreciate everyone’s cooperation and diligence in adhering to restrictions and safety protocols. I know that it hasn’t been easy, but your cooperation and associate participation are the two necessary pieces to keep our communities virus-free.
Finally, I want to express my gratitude for the patience and kindness you continue to show our associates. This pandemic has been and continues to be an extremely stressful and scary time, but they continue to serve with compassion and dedication. The appreciation and support our teams receive from you and your families does not go unnoticed. Thank you.
With hope and gratitude,
Lawrence D. Carlson President & CEO
