Honoring the Life and Legacy of Rev. Edward H. Carll

This past Friday, many UMC and UMCF teammates, board members, and several residents gathered at Haddonfield United Methodist Church to celebrate the life and impact of our dear friend, Rev. Edward H. Carll. The church was packed with hundreds of people whose lives had been touched by Ed — a testament to the way he made ALL of us feel valued, encouraged, and inspired.
Ed gave more than a decade of service to UMC and the UMC Foundation, including two terms as Chair of the UMC Foundation Board of Trustees and, most recently, Chair of the UMC Board of Directors. He always led with wisdom and humor and guided our vision by lifting up the unique gifts of others and reminding us to find joy in working together.
Rev. Ed Carll was an integral part of our ministry, and while his passing leaves a challenging void, we know his memory will continue to guide our work. We hold his wife, Gabriele, their son Christopher, and Ed’s three grandchildren in our prayers during this difficult time.
When the choir performed a stirring rendition of “Draw the Circle Wide” at Friday’s service, each of us felt that call to action to carry on Ed’s greatest gift — bringing people together to make a greater difference in the world.
All of us at UMC and the UMCF remain grateful for Ed’s leadership, friendship, and passion for creating abundant life for older adults.
