United Methodist Communities Announces Staff Appointments

Michele E. Matthews Promoted to Executive Director and Sharon Schwarzkopf Appointed Healthcare Administrator

United Methodist Communities (UMC) is pleased to announce the promotion of Michele E. Matthews to executive director and the appointment of Sharon Schwarzkopf to healthcare administrator at their Pitman campus, effective May 15, 2020.

Ms. Matthews, assisted living administrator at UMC at Pitman since 2011, has been promoted to executive director, and will assume oversight and management of the senior living community. Pitman’s management team will report directly to Ms. Matthews, who brings over 19 years’ experience in diverse settings within long term healthcare administration. These include past positions as an assisted living coordinator, executive director, community relations director, and business office manager.

In addition to certification as a Certified Assisted Living Administrator (CALA), a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Purdue University Global, add to her leadership skills. A resident of Clementon, Ms. Matthews states, “This promotion affords me the opportunity to be a familiar face and source of guidance for our residents, families and associates, especially during this challenging time.”

Sharon Schwarzkopf, who has been appointed the healthcare administrator, holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Stockton State University, as well as Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) certification. A resident of Forked River, her expertise includes strategic planning; resident satisfaction; recruiting, hiring, and training; occupancy; budgeting; and nursing operations.

With 35 years’ experience in long term care, Ms. Schwarzkopf, says, “Because of my passion for my career, many wonderful people have encouraged and enhanced my journey. I am honored to join the UMC at Pitman team.”
