United Methodist Communities at Bristol Glen Expands Tapestries® Innovative Memory Care Programming
Reflecting a global aging population, more than 46 million people worldwide live with dementia and the number of people affected is set to rise to over 131 million by 2050. With a focus on responding to the needs of older adults, United Methodist Communities (UMC) at Bristol Glen, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Newton, NJ, recently expanded its Tapestries® Memory Care.
Located in a secure Assisted Living neighborhood within Bristol Glen, the total number of Tapestries apartments now stands at 21. Tapestries delivers care for residents with different brain disorders that affect memory, thinking, behavior, and emotion.
The Tapestries® Model of Care is a dynamic and holistic approach for improving residents’ lives. In addition to specific training, associates include LETS (Life Enrichment Team Specialist) members. All are well acquainted with each resident’s health history, previous diagnoses, preferences, personality, and routines. This enables associates to stay engaged with residents, manage unpredictable behaviors, understand body language, interpret nonverbal cues, and break down activities into smaller manageable steps. Honoring the unique wants and needs of the individual and allowing that to direct care, as well as safety, are also a substantial part of caregiver training.
Jeff Lisk, executive director, observes, “In tandem with the construction, we are updating our entire Tapestries environment and utilizing the Tapestries Model of Care to be highly person-directed and engaging.”
Tapestries employs skilled, certified associates, 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Teams with unique skill sets and perspectives work with residents’ families to explore the tools and interventions to improve their loves ones’ wellbeing.
