For over two centuries, the White House in Washington, D.C., has been the stage for some of American History’s most climactic moments. This hour-long presentation hosted by Pam Pontano and Karen Heller, a docent from the Red Bank Battlefield, is based on the book The Hidden History of the White House by Corey Mead. Hear these fascinating stories of our nation’s most iconic residence while getting a feel for life at Pitman Manor, Gloucester County’s preferred continuum of care community.
Among the many topics to be discussed will include:
• The 1814 burning of the White House by the British
• Andrew Jackson’s disastrous inauguration party
• The complete gutting and rebuilding of the building during the Truman
administration.
• The many White House swimming pools, where they
were installed and by whom
• The installation of President Nixon’s infamous taping system
• And more!
