United Methodist Communities’ HomeWorks Opens in Freehold

In 2016, United Methodist Communities (UMC) a New Jersey based senior living and care provider, established HomeWorks. Recently, they relocated from Ocean Grove to 76 West Main Street in Freehold. Corresponding to older adults’ desire to stay in their homes as they age, HomeWorks now operates in three locations: Freehold, Haddonfield and Sparta.

HomeWorks’ Freehold office serves older adults in Monmouth and the surrounding counties and continues to care for clients previously served by the Ocean Grove site. As a licensed Health Care Services Firm, it offers in-home personal care, companions, live-in care, and Tapestries at Home, a program for seniors with dementia.

Deborah Walsh, corporate director of homecare services, reflects, “Freehold is a vibrant town, the county seat, and lends important access to mass transit and many local businesses. This strategic location promises much progress for the future and will benefit both our clients and our associates.”

Currently, over 65 percent of older adults have multiple chronic illnesses, which often limit their ability to complete basic daily tasks. Demographic projections of more than 70 million Americans age-65-plus by 2030, underscores the importance of bringing care into homes.

Coordinated care which may include bathing, grooming, and dressing assistance, meal preparation, grocery shopping, errands, laundry, light housekeeping, and more, fosters independence and lends peace-of-mind to seniors and their loved ones, many of whom live a distance away. Customized care plans are created and monitored by registered nurses.

All HomeWorks’ caregivers are certified home health aides and hold certificates from the State of New Jersey which requires 60 hours of classroom instruction and 12 hours of clinical training. Upon completion the certified home health aides must pass a New Jersey Board of Nursing Competency Exam.
