The UMC Foundation Raises Nearly $50,000 at “Anchored in Generosity” in Support of Older Adults Across New Jersey

The UMC Foundation (UMCF) is proud to announce that it raised nearly $50,000 at its 2nd Annual Anchored in Generosity event, held May 28 aboard the River Queen in Brielle, New Jersey. These funds will directly support UMC’s communities, programs, and services that empower older adults across the state to live vibrant, independent lives.

Set against the picturesque waters of the Manasquan River and Barnegat Bay, the evening brought together supporters, partners, and teammates to celebrate the spirit of generosity and shared mission that drives UMC forward. Guests enjoyed a three-hour cruise filled with fellowship, live music from local acoustic duo Jay and Amy, and a lively silent auction featuring a wide range of items and experiences.

The evening was emceed by Jim Roberts, Vice President of the UMC Foundation, who reflected on the powerful collective impact of donors and supporters.

“Events like Anchored in Generosity remind us that our mission is not carried by any one person — it’s powered by a community,” said Jim Roberts. “Every gift, every partnership, and every moment of support helps create abundant life for the older adults we serve, through compassionate care, innovative programming, and meaningful connection.”

The program opened with a prayer from David Glenn, UMC’s Senior Vice President of People and Culture, grounding the evening in gratitude and shared purpose. UMC President and CEO Mark Lenhard followed with remarks that highlighted the importance of teamwork across the entire organization.

“It takes an entire team to bring our mission to life,” said Mark Lenhard. “From our board members and leadership team to our frontline caregivers, dining staff, and volunteers, each person plays a vital role in creating environments where people can truly thrive. When we come together with purpose and compassion, the impact is extraordinary.”

A highlight of the evening came when UMC Board Chair Rodney Ross and UMCF Board Chair Cora Park introduced special guest of honor Esther Hill, a resident of The Wesleyan, UMC’s affordable senior housing community in Red Bank.

With humor and heartfelt gratitude, Esther shared how finding a home at The Wesleyan felt like an answer to her prayers. She spoke about the joy she has found in the community and how living there has given her a sense of independence, security, and belonging.

Her story served as a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact made possible through the generosity of donors, volunteers, and community partners.

UMCF extends sincere appreciation to all who helped make the evening a success, including year-long Premier Partner, Hawks & Company. Special thanks are also extended to Visionary Sponsors: Caring Communities, Hackensack Meridian Health, Princeton Strategic Communications, and Provident Bank, and Patron Sponsors: AllRisk, D.A.
