Abundant Minds: Expanding How We Support Brain Health, Memory Care, and the Community

At UMC, innovation in senior living has never been about trends — it has always been about people.

That commitment is why we are proud to announce the launch of Abundant Minds, a new umbrella for UMC’s growing suite of memory care, brain health, and educational programs designed to support residents, caregivers, and individuals in the broader community who are navigating memory changes or seeking ways to protect cognitive health.

Abundant Minds represents a thoughtful expansion of work that UMC has been leading for decades. It’s not a rebrand, but a clearer expression of who we are, what we believe, and where senior living must go next.

A Legacy of Leadership in Memory Care

UMC has long been recognized as a pioneer in memory care in the region. At a time when dementia care was almost exclusively clinical, UMC helped introduce a social model of memory care that is rooted in engagement, familiarity, relationships, and dignity.

Our Tapestries™ Memory Care neighborhoods in our full-service senior living communities are intentionally designed to feel like home. Care teams work in holistic, universal roles, allowing residents to see the same trusted faces each day. Daily life emphasizes purpose, connection, and meaningful engagement, an approach that has become widely adopted but was once considered uncommon.

UMC further strengthened this leadership by achieving Alzheimer’s Association–aligned curriculum certification, investing in staff education, and continually refining our approach as research and best practices evolve.

Why Abundant Minds and Why Now?

As the population ages, concerns about memory loss and cognitive decline touch nearly every family. Many people living independently today are managing mild cognitive impairment (MCI), caring for a loved one at home, or simply wondering what they can do to stay mentally sharp as they age.

Abundant Minds was created to meet people earlier and more holistically. This initiative reflects UMC’s belief that brain health is not just about care after diagnosis, but about prevention, education, social connection, and ongoing support.

What Abundant Minds Includes

Under the Abundant Minds umbrella, UMC brings together several programs and services:

Brain Health & Early Intervention Programs
UMC’s evidence-based programs for individuals experiencing mild cognitive impairment or early memory concerns are designed to support confidence and connection. These sessions focus on cognitive engagement, social interaction, and practical strategies that participants can apply in daily life.

Memory Cafés & Community Engagement
UMC hosts and partners on Memory Cafés — part of a national movement to reduce social isolation for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. Held in welcoming, community-based settings such as libraries and community centers, these gatherings offer meaningful social engagement in a relaxed, stigma-free environment.

Tapestries™ Memory Care
UMC’s signature memory care program serves residents in our full-service senior living communities through a relationship-based, Montessori-informed approach that emphasizes choice and purpose. Team members are trained to support residents as whole people, fostering daily moments of independence and connection.

Education, Training & Consultation
Through dementia-friendly education and professional training, UMC shares its expertise beyond its own communities — supporting caregivers, partners, and organizations seeking to strengthen their understanding of dementia care best practices.

Looking Ahead

Abundant Minds is both a reflection of UMC’s history and a vision for its future.

As the needs of older adults evolve and become more complex, UMC remains committed to supporting cognitive research, evidence-based practices, and innovation that is human-centered and connected to community.
