How HomeWorks Caregivers Make a Difference Every Day

When families talk about a great caregiver, they rarely start by describing tasks.

They talk about trust.

They talk about the person who became part of their routine, who noticed the little things, who showed up consistently, and who treated their loved one with genuine care.

At HomeWorks, every service we provide is designed to help older adults remain safe, comfortable, and independent at home. But no matter what kind of support a client receives, it's the relationship with their caregiver that shapes the experience.

When Care Feels Like Family

As caregivers and clients spend time together, they learn each other's routines, preferences, habits, and stories. Trust deepens. Familiarity grows.

HomeWorks caregiver Doreen Taylor and her client, Irene, know that feeling well.

Doreen was Irene's caregiver at a previous home care agency. When Doreen joined HomeWorks, Irene was assigned a new caregiver. Although Irene continued receiving care, she missed the relationship she and Doreen had built over time.

After nearly six months apart, Irene made the decision to hire HomeWorks so she could once again be matched with Doreen.

Today, the two are together again.

"Irene means the world to me,” Doreen shares. “She is like a part of my family. I really look forward to being with her and am appreciative of our special bond."

While every caregiver-client relationship is unique, stories like theirs reflect something families often tell us: the right caregiver becomes a trusted and welcome part of everyday life.

Supporting Clients Through Every Stage of Care

HomeWorks offers a range of in-home care services, and caregivers adapt their support to meet each client's unique needs.

For those who need assistance with daily living activities, our Certified Home Health Aides provide help with bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, meal preparation, medication reminders, and light housekeeping.

Companion care focuses on connection. Whether sharing a conversation, accompanying someone to an appointment, helping with errands, or simply being present, companions help clients stay engaged in the routines, relationships, and activities that bring them joy.

For families seeking more comprehensive support, live-in care provides the reassurance of having a dedicated caregiver in the home. With someone available throughout the day and overnight, clients benefit from consistency, familiarity, and peace of mind.

Caregivers also play a vital role in Tapestries® at Home, HomeWorks' specialized memory care program. Through additional dementia training, they learn techniques that help create structure, support engagement, and reduce anxiety for individuals living with memory loss.

The Team Behind Every Caregiver

While caregivers are the people clients see most often, they are supported by an experienced team working behind the scenes.

Before care begins, a HomeWorks Registered Nurse visits the home, conducts an assessment, and develops a personalized care plan. As needs evolve, the nurse continues to provide oversight and guidance. Caregivers are carefully matched with clients based on both care needs and personality, creating relationships that feel natural and comfortable from the start.

"The relationship between a caregiver and client can have a tremendous impact on someone's quality of life. That's why we take caregiver matching so seriously. We want clients to feel comfortable, understood, and cared for, and we want our caregivers to be in a position to build close connections. When that happens, everyone benefits," says Terra Tilden, Director of HomeWorks.
