On June 23, UMC and the UMC Foundation (UMCF) commemorated Bristol Glen’s 25th Anniversary with a ribbon‑cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of a transformative project. The “Bristol Glen Refresh” brings new life to the community’s most beloved spaces and was made possible through the generosity of UMCF and the remarkable legacy gift of Barbara L. Harris, a former resident, longtime UMC board member, and champion of Bristol Glen.
The celebration brought together UMC and UMCF leadership, Bristol Glen team members, and residents to honor the project’s completion and the enduring spirit of home that defines UMC’s mission.
The Bristol Glen Refresh includes:
A brighter, more inviting Main Street with new flooring, warm neutrals, streetlamp‑style lighting, and storefront‑style facades
A fully reimagined library with lounge seating, a modern computer station, and space for book clubs and small gatherings
A renewed Town Hall featuring updated finishes, comfortable seating, and a timeless aesthetic for events and celebrations
A boutique‑style café experience with expanded seating and a flexible space for pop‑ups like ice cream and coffee carts
A serene, nature‑inspired rotunda designed as a peaceful retreat for music, conversation, and reflection
“As we celebrate Bristol Glen’s 25th Anniversary, this refresh is a powerful reminder of UMC and UMCF’s commitment to creating communities that truly feel like home,” said Anna Burke, Executive Director of Bristol Glen. “Barbara Harris’ generosity ensures that our residents — today and tomorrow — can enjoy beautiful, welcoming spaces that nurture connection and joy.”
Barbara’s dedication to UMC spanned decades, from her leadership within the NJ Methodist Conference to her 18 years of service on the UMC Board, where she helped establish and fundraise for Bristol Glen. When she later became a resident, she lived in the community she helped create. Upon her passing in June 2023, she left a significant gift to UMCF to support capital improvements across our communities.
In her honor, the main corridor of Bristol Glen, formerly known as Main Street, has been renamed Barbara Harris Boulevard to ensure Barbara and her love for UMC is never forgotten.
“Barbara Harris believed deeply in UMC’s mission, and her legacy continues to shape Bristol Glen in meaningful ways,” added Mark Lenhard, UMC President & CEO. “This project reflects the heart of our work at the UMC Foundation — partnering with donors to strengthen our communities and enhance the lives of the people who call them home.”
