UMC is thrilled to announce an exciting transformation at The Shores, its Ocean City, New Jersey full-service senior community — one that blends fresh, modern design with amenity‑rich spaces that elevate socialization, recreation, and well‑being for its residents.
At the heart of this renovation is a thoughtfully designed, open‑concept gathering space. Featuring new seating, wood‑beam accents, and coastal‑inspired tones, the refreshed space draws deeply from resort‑style elements — creating an environment that evokes relaxation and the unmistakable feel of a beachfront retreat.
Designed with flow and accessibility in mind, the expansive layout will feature:
A billiards area where residents can unwind and connect with friends and loved ones
A fireplace lounge with a large‑screen television, creating a hub for conversation, entertainment, and everyday enjoyment
A community kitchen, complete with modern appliances and finishes to support expanded programming, cooking demonstrations, special events, and family get-togethers
These spaces reflect UMC’s belief that socialization is essential to health, happiness, and emotional wellness.
Flowing directly from the newly renovated indoor space, The Shores’ courtyard will also undergo a significant transformation. Plans include a new deck, comfortable seating areas, firepits, and a pizza oven — making the courtyard an ideal destination for gathering, dining, and relaxation from early spring through late fall.
Further enhancing The Shores’ wellness offerings, residents will soon enjoy a new exercise studio designed for group classes, as well as a larger, fully equipped fitness center for one‑on‑one training sessions with UMC’s exercise physiologists. The expanded fitness center will feature dumbbells, cable systems, bicycles, and resident-favorite recumbent cross trainers, and more — making fitness accessible for people of all abilities.
“At UMC, we approach every decision with one belief: we should provide the lifestyle and environment we would want for our own families,” said James Zauner, Executive Director of The Shores. “Our residents are truly an extension of our family and we hope they see that in the work we’re about to do. This renovation reflects our continued commitment to enriching the lives of our residents and helping them stay active and engaged.”
Renovation at The Shores will begin soon, with a large celebration to follow. Stay tuned!
